The brachioradialis is a superficial muscle of the forearm that acts as a powerful flexor of the elbow. Unlike other elbow flexors, it is most effective when the forearm is in a neutral or mid-pronated position (the “handshake” position). It also helps stabilize the elbow during rapid flexion and extension movements.
