The anconeus is a small, triangular muscle located on the posterior aspect of the elbow joint. It is considered an extension of the triceps brachii and works alongside it to assist in elbow extension. Crucially, the anconeus also provides lateral stability to the elbow and prevents the joint capsule from being pinched during movement.
